Description

Post Condition: Students will have obtained knowledge of

Fundamental probability axioms and models, to enable application to probabilistic computation
Statistical techniques (sampling/experiment design, hypothesis testing and estimation) to apply to analysis of data sets

Brief Description

The course is intended as a balanced introduction to basic probability and statistical applications for a mixed audience of ECE and CS students. The course will start with examples of data collection in various science/engineering areas as motivation and proceed to highlight the role of a) probability models for data and their b) statistical analysis.  The mix of probability concepts and data analysis methods will be mediated by use of statistical computation as a-glue.
